High Temperature Oxidation Behavior of Mg-5% Ca-1% Zn Alloys
Kwon Yong Ji, Dong Bok Lee
Korean J. Met. Mater. 2016;54(9):645-651.   Published online 2016 Sep 5
DOI: https://doi.org/10.3365/KJMM.2016.54.9.645

Abstract
Pure Mg, Mg-5wt%Ca, and Mg-5wt%Ca-1wt%Zn alloys were cast, and their high-temperature oxidation behavior was investigated to determine the roles of Ca and Zn in oxidation. Ca and Zn additions refined the microstructure by formation of Mg2Ca and Ca2Mg6Zn3, respectively, at grain boundaries. Ca increased the oxidation resistance by forming a..... More

Study of Water Resistance of Fe2O3 Doped P2O5–ZnO–Bi2O3 Sealing Glass System
Moon Kyung Hwang, Il Gu Kim, Bong Ki Ryu
Korean J. Met. Mater. 2016;54(8):621-625.   Published online 2016 Aug 5
DOI: https://doi.org/10.3365/KJMM.2016.54.8.621

Abstract
In order to strengthen the structure of the glass and ultimately improve its water resistance, P2O5–ZnO–Bi2O3 was doped with Fe2O3, which generated Fe ions in the phosphate-based glass. These ions constitute (P2O7)−4 groups within the glass network. Structural analysis using Fourier transfer infrared spectroscopy indicated that P-O-P and Bi-O-P bonds..... More

Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Continuous Welded 50N Rail
Wookjin Choi, Min Ji Song, Nam-Hyoung Lim, Soo Yeol Lee
Published online 1999 Nov 30
Abstract
Rails are subjected to repeated stresses due to wheel-rail contact during train service. Rails under stress conditions undergo microstructural changes, and these cause degradations of the structural integrity and lifetime of rails. In this study, three different rails (newly-manufactured rail, newly-manufactured head-hardened rail, and worn (used) rail) were compared to... More
